The most beautiful thing we can experience is the mysterious. It is the source of all true art and all science. He to whom this emotion is a stranger, who can no longer pause to wonder and stand rapt in awe, is as good as dead: his eyes are closed.– Albert Einstein

I found this article very interesting because shows like CSI and Law and Order give people the idea that crime scene investigation is very simple and quick. In reality, analyzing DNA and other evidence can take days or even weeks so the perception from the TV shows is very different from reality. I also found the idea of the body farm in Tennessee. It gives students a chance to see what it is like to work with dead bodies and see how long they have been dead for. It gives students the real life experience they will get if they want to pursue that career in the future. I also found how time consuming and frustrating analyzing DNA can be. When they examine DNA the same strands can be about 99.8% similar but that .02% shows enough differences to point to the criminal. I found that shocking because I never knew how a small percentage can make such a huge difference. Overall, this article really caught my attention since it is something that is very interesting to me.
I agree with Emily that this article is very interesting, but i also think this article is informative in many ways. This article informs people about the reality of crime scene investigation. There are many factors one has to think about when they think of crime scene investigation, like time, weather, and speed. This article also informs the reader about how people have identical DNA except for 0.02% of the strand. One thing that shocked me about this article was when one of the women said that her crime lab did not look like ones in the movie, they had ordinary computers. I thought that crime labs had to be updated with the newest technology, to insure accuracy. This article was very interesting to read, and i learned a lot about the false advertisement about Crime investigation in T.V shows By: Molly MacDonald
I, like others, found this article to be interesting because there are many different things that one can do and get away with. However, with technology getting much more advanced, getting away with a crime is much more difficult, and it makes the lives of detectives and scientists much easier, as the work they need to do is simplified. But that is not to say that their jobs are not hard. As explained in the article, bodies "can go from fresh body to a complete skeleton in only two weeks,” which is very rapid. This article helped give me a better picture of the real world jobs and what they are like, which can one day help me make a decision on what I want to study and college, and possibly have a career in. This article was very interesting and informative, which definitely taught me more about how the job really gets done, rather than how it is portrayed on television. -DeVaughn Hauck
I thought that the article was really interesting as my other classmates have found it to be as well. I enjoyed reading it because I realize how much sometimes the medical field and law and law enforcement over lap. Sometimes it may not be so obvious and not something people think about much but lawyers and doctors do a lot of work together because their work impact each other. It also makes me realize exactly how important science is and how advanced we have come to be. It is amazing how much a group of people in that field can do in order to figure out different cases. Sometimes things seem impossible and that they might have no solution but the more the group of people know about science and math and possibly history and the more people working together to solve a problem the likely it'll be that they solve it and solve it quick. I know the people above have compared it to tv shows, I wish I could do that but I don't really watch tv but the little that I do know about CSI I think is pretty accurate because of the fact that I don't watch tv. -Nairobi Fernandez
This was a very interesting article and i liked the fact that it shows what really happens compared to all of the TV shows like CSI. Like Emily i thought that it was also amazing how similar human are that the .02% distingues us from another person. I am very interested in this type of feild and now see how careful you must be to make sure you get every detail just right or you will srew up everything.
I also found the article interesting. I found it Interesting because usually all we see is the investigation on t.v. Rather than the work and time that is put into analyzing evidence. For example the body deteriorates in a very fast amount of time and the fact that these people who are studying the body and are able to get all they needed out of it in a small amount of time which is remarkable. I also liked how the article gave a history on how our ability to study the body has grown and now we are able to study much more as they years go by. I also agree with everyone who said that this is kind of different than the things we see on t.v. Because most of time on t.v. the information from the body is returned pretty fast. Overall, I think it was a pretty good article because of the information given and the way that they gave us that information.
I agree with Emily and Molly that this source is very interesting, and watching CSI and Criminal Minds is not as realistic as what actually happens in the lab. It is hard work and they do not have nearly the equipment as it shows on a movie set but they get the job done. I also think it is interesting that people can donate their bodies to the Body Farm and have them observed so that researches can learn more about decomposing bodies. It also interesting to see how far forensics has come since the 1980s where the researchers knew nothing about the body that they found. Now a simple finger print can get them so far in the investigation. As a whole I think that the article was very informative and interesting and it was very easy to read and answers all your questions along the way. -Kasey Lebbossiere
This article was very interesting and makes shows like CSI not at all realistic. Solving crimes are not as easy as it appears. This also opened my eyes to what i would want to do for a career in the homicide unit or even cold cases. The article was very informative to anyone interested in the criminal field. Stephen
This article is fascinating and it makes shows appeal to the audience such as CSI as something delusional. I agree with Steven that these shows are perceived as not realistic. To solve a crime it takes hard work and effort. I realized that people can choose from thousands of selections of an area to work in. People have the choice of picking a career that interests them. Overall the article is very informative and helpful providing information that answers those intriguing questions.
