The most beautiful thing we can experience is the mysterious. It is the source of all true art and all science. He to whom this emotion is a stranger, who can no longer pause to wonder and stand rapt in awe, is as good as dead: his eyes are closed. – Albert Einstein

These articles are very interesting in my opinion. I was personally very interested in the one about kidney stones. I have never really known much about kidney stones but I have heard of them. They cause terrible pain so I always assumed that they were not very common. However, the article says that every year "about one million Americans, most between the ages of 20 and 40, are treated for kidney stones." I found this very shocking because I have never had any personal or family related cases with kidney stones. This is also scary because they hurt so bad but can happen to anyone. This is why people should start drinking water more often.
ReplyDeleteI am on the same page as Lisndsey, I have heard of kidney stones but I didn't know what it was exactly. It was very shocking to hear how many people, or should I say men, actually recieve kidney stones in their lifetime. The article says that "Typically, one in seven men will have a kidney stone at some point in his life" and I think that is very shocking. Not only did I think that kidney stone wasn't something people get often but I also didn't knoe how many people were affected by it. I also find it very scary now, especially by the way Joseph Lozupone, who was affected by it. He said that it "was the kind of pain that would make you jump out of your skin" and by his description it sounds pretty painful.
ReplyDeleteI agree with both Lindsey and Dejia about kidney stones. They sound as if they really hurt in various sizes. The article says "Kidney stones are chemical deposits in the urine that form into hard crystals. Stones, which can be as tiny as a grain of sand or as big as a golf ball, do one of two things: they remain in the kidney and grow, or they begin to pass down the ureter". The sizes vary and no matter what, they can be very painful because of remaining in the kidney to grow its size, hardens, and moves through the ureter. Also, I enjoyed the other article about the appendix and how it is alright to not have an appendix. The publisher also said that people can compare their appendix to wisdom teeth, tonsils, body hair, etc. It is really not needed, but it can be really dangerous if someone gets appendices, and they have to get it removed immediately. Scary!
