The most beautiful thing we can experience is the mysterious. It is the source of all true art and all science. He to whom this emotion is a stranger, who can no longer pause to wonder and stand rapt in awe, is as good as dead: his eyes are closed.– Albert Einstein

I found this article very interesting because I never considered that someone could ever die from a broken heart. However, I have heard of someones partner dying a couple of months after their partner has died. It never crossed my mind that dying of a broken heart could be a real thing that happens to people. I also found it surprising that the number of people who die from a broken heart was over 100,000. Something that was curious to me was, what make these people die from a broken heart? Do you guys think it could just be natural causes that cause the person to die or that they get so sad and depressed that they actually die of a broken heart? After reading this I think that since the number of people dying after their partner is so high there could be a possibility that the person gets so depressed that they do die. Overall, this did change my opinion and made me think more about this topic.
I agree with Emily that this article is very interesting. I have heard many people say that after their loved ones die they feel like they are dying of a broken heart, but I never thought it could actually happen. Now I know that after losing something or someone dear to you, it is easy to lose touch in things and stop eating right, and go into a state of mind where nothing really matters. But I never thought that someone could actually experience chest pains right on the spot of hearing something bad had happened, It is crazy that 30 to 50 percent of people whose spouses have died, die just a short time afterwards because of how much stress they are put under after losing someone they love. I find it fascinating that people's bodies and emotions connect so well like that, and how the pain of knowing you have lost someone effects all other parts of the body. When I think of syndromes I usually think of something that you can physically see or something that was physically done to someone, not losing a loved one. This article has completely changed the way I look at emotions connecting with the body, and now I am a firm believer in the broken heart syndrome.
This article is very interesting because it is a fact that most people would not believe. I agree with Emily and Kasey about hearing about people who died a couple months after their loved one died. After my grandfather died, my grandmother died a month later. My dad said that it was because she could not live without my grandfather. I never knew he was being serious until after reading this article. What I want to know is how someone’s body knows that their loved one has died. Is there body going through a state of depression? What interested me the most about this article is the large number of people who died in the past from a broken heart.
I agree that the article was interesting, but I am skeptical that dying of a broken heart is possible. I think that the deaths of the widows and widowers are just coincidences. Also the people that die after their loved ones, such as Dorothy, were elderly. It was discovered that she has health issues, so a broken heart is not a justified reason for someone's death. I have come to the conclusion that dying of a broken heart is impossible and the reason why people die shortly after their loved ones are because of either health issues, overwhelming stress or old age.
This article was very interesting and I never thought that anybody could die of a broken heart. A question I had was how exactly does it effect the heart and also how do other emotions effect the body? I understand what Jordyn's talking about because it does seem like a coincidence that they died after their love one died. However, I feel like heart break can cause this to happen because you are depressed, stressed out and if stress can cause issues with the body a heart break could definitely cause damage.
